I like bird-watching. I have been doing it for more than 20 years now, and I have participated in some nation-wide ornithological research projects in Spain, co-ordinated by the Spanish Ornithological Society. I am a proud owner of the Handbook of the Birds of the World, a magnificent (but expensive!) Spanish work.
I used to do a lot of sailing. I haven't sailed for years now, which is a shame.
I like basketball. I am a certified National Basketball Trainer in Spain, and I have trained female basketball teams for years. I also used to play, but I wasn't very good.
I like taking photos of birds, landscapes, people, etc. I have taken over 5.000 pictures with my Canons EOS 600 and 10D and some other (borrowed) cameras such as a twin-lens Rolleiflex, a Mamiya 645 , some Hasselblad and a number of 35 mm ones.
I love cooking with Isabel. In Galicia we started cooking Asian food, which was quite exotic and not well known. In Sydney we found plenty of ingredients and real stuff, so after a while enjoying them we started cooking some Galician food instead. Our specialties are entrecote with black pepper, tortilla , Galician caldo and cocido.
I love reading about biology, especially evolutive biology, genetics, artificial life and xenosciences. I also enjoy reading about physics, maths, psychology, and many other topics. Favourite essayists include Stephen Jay Gould, Richard Dawkins and Antonio Escohotado. On fiction, I like Robert Holdstock, Douglas Coupland, Raymond Carver, Boris Vian, Eduardo Mendoza, Peter F. Hamilton, Jorge Luis Borges and (sometimes) Michael Crichton.
I like music, especially Kate Bush, Carmel, Tori Amos, Sarah McLachlan, Mike Oldfield, The Alan Parsons Project, The Cranberries, Andrés Calamaro, Shakira, Luis Eduardo Aute, Siniestro Total, Vivaldi, Fauré and Dvorak.
I want to live in the countryside. I am a cat person. I cannot play any musical instrument (but I'd love to). I am a knuckle-cracker. My house is painted green, yellow, orange and purple. I don't like soccer. I don't smoke.
